What’s Special in Every Season in the Hudson Valley

Come experience country life in harmony with the seasons and environmentally sustainable practices.

The ever-changing seasons bring forth a rhythm to our lives and influence all that happens at Thyme in the Country.  Agriculture and the geography of the area have always been a main component of the economy and development of Columbia County, NY and it is behind most of the reasons why guests come to visit the area.   Driving through the quaint county, you’ll find the scenic vistas, first class restaurants, beverage trails, art galleries, the estates of historically famous inhabitants of Columbia and Greene county are all in some way related to the agriculture and geography of this area.   We are only a short distance from all the activities available in Hudson, NY and surrounding towns, but month by month as the seasons change, you will find those changes reflected in your stay here.  The decor, our gardens, the activities, the community offerings, the animals, the guests, our work, our intentions, our helpers.  Everything is affected by seasonality, and this page gives you the latest indication of what you can find happening when you come to visit us in Hudson, NY.  It helps you plan and time your Hudson Valley vacation. It will help you decide what to pack – your snowshoes or your dancing shoes. Pick your favorite season, and take advantage of what the area is offering.

Birds singing, flowers in bloom and a welcoming salt water pool to enjoy.  Is there a better way to spend a summer day?  During summer, our organic garden is at its peak and the surrounding community is brimming with u-pick opportunities for fruits and vegetables.  June is the time for strawberry picking in Columbia County, with sweet cherries ripening in early July, followed by sour cherries.  The sweetest peaches you’ll ever taste became available in very late July or early August and the early fall crop of apples, pears and plums follows that.  The Hudson area is also home to several Farmers Markets, where you can buy local produce in addition to other locally made products, like baked goods, wine and distilled spirits, all while listening to some local musical talent.

There are many festivals throughout the local communities in the summer months, culminating with the Columbia County Fair in Chatham over Labor Day weekend, featuring rides, food, games, animal exhibits, a tractor pull and some fairly big-name musical entertainment.

Soak up the beauty of this season right here I our back yard.  Fall is the most beautiful season of the year reaching its peak just before Halloween. The scenic views have inspired painters and photographers to capture scenes of wildlife and the changing sky, beautiful flowers and birdlife. Our cozy cottages allow you to relax and unwind, or take time to enjoy walks out the back door and pick flowers.

In the general area, there are multiple farms that allow pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, have corn mazes, and some even host special Halloween events.  You can find more about this HERE.
